General Information
Prizren is a large and historically important municipality in the south of Kosovo and is considered one of the most multiethnic municipalities in Kosovo. Although Albanians are in the majority, there are large Bosniak, Turk and RAE communities and a small Serbian community residing in the municipality of Prizren. Most communities interact freely with one another. According to the Local Community Office the most important issues facing the Prizren municipality are the high unemployment rate, the lack of infrastructure, the lack of information, the lack of faculties who theach in minority languages, and the lack of possible specialty branches in the secondary schools.

Demographics
After the 1999 conflict many community members, Serbs in particular, moved away from the municipality. Today it is primarily economic reasons that make people move away from Prizren, mostly towards Western Europe. Most communities live in the city of Prizren, in Zupa Podgor and the rural part of Prizren.

Accurate population statistics are not available for Kosovo. The numbers presented here are approximate estimates by the Local Community Office, cross checked with OSCE Municipal Profiles and Civil Society. For more information on Statistics in Kosovo click here

Safety and Freedom of Movement
The Kosovo Police and KFOR are responsible for security in Prizren. All communities, with the exception of the Serb community, are represented in the Kosovo Police. Generally, community members are satisfied with the performance of the Kosovo Police. No incidents have been reported in the last year, and although a small group of Serbs still experience problems with their freedom of movement, all other communities feel completely free to move around the municipality. More concrete, Serbs are still afraid to identify themselves in public.

Educatio
The Prizren municipality offers pre-school, primary and secondary education. Two branches of the Prishtinë/Priština University are also located in Prizren, the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Information Technology. Education is offered in Albanian, Bosnian and Turkish. There are no Serbs enrolled in the educational system in Prizren. The main issue affecting communities in Prizren is the lack of high quality secondary education in Bosnian and Turkish. Moreover, there is a lack of textbooks and literature books and a lack of qualified employees.

Returns
There have been no incidents registered with regard to returns over the last year, but a lack of investment in infrastructure, and the strict requirements for the returnees adopted by the Ministry of Return and Communities. For those who are forced to return, the main problems are the lack of income sources, the lack of access to education and social discrimination. The municipality offers barely support to the forced returns, except the provision of health care.

Economy
The main sources of employment are the municipality services, the Electricity Company (KEK), PTK, private businesses in agricultural products, winery, artisans, tourism and catering services. Unemployment, however, is very high, especially with the communities. There are an insufficient amount of jobs, a lack of investments in private businesses and complaints about clientelism.

Access to Health Care and Other Public Services (Police/Administration/Public Companies/etc.

Health Care
Prizren has numerous health clinics throughout the municipality and a hospital in the city of Prizren. All communities can access these health services freely and can communicate with their doctors in their own language. Some members of the Serb community access parallel health structures in the village of Mušnikovo/Mushnikovë. For more complicated procedures Serb community members travel to Štrpce/Shtërpcë or Mitrovica/Mitrovicë.

Other Public Institutions
All communities receive official documents in their own languages and people can easily access the public services.
