General Information
The municipality of Viti/Vitina is located in the south east of Kosovo. The vast majority of the population is Albanian, while there are some small communities of Serbs, Croats and Roma. Interaction between the minority and majority communities only takes place in the economic sphere and formally through the community representatives. The main problems for community members are unemployment, a lack of qualified skills and poor engagement within the institutions.
At the end of 2009, Viti/Vitina lost the cadastral zones of Klokot/Kllokoto, Grncar/Gërncar, Mogila/Mogillë and Vrbovac/Vërboc to the newly established municipality of Klokot/Kllokoti, which explains the changes in the demographics of the “mother municipality”.

Demographics
After the 1999 conflict there was a large movement of community members, particularly the Serbs, away from the Viti/Vitina municipality. The main reason for the large flux of people away from the municipality at that time was security. While, today people still move away, the main reasons are now economic rather than security related.
Accurate population statistics are not available for Kosovo. The numbers presented here are approximate estimates by the Local Community Office, cross checked with OSCE Municipal Profiles and Civil Society. For more information on Statistics in Kosovo click here
